Rachel Maddow took her “investigation” of Donald Trump and his alleged ties to Russia too far Thursday when she called and offered a classified dossier she acquired from an unnamed source to a Russian operative. She was trying to trade the file for a tape that allegedly had some compromising footage of our president Trump.
The tape, of course, didn’t exist and the Russian operative was a Justice Department undercover agent. Maddow was taken into custody at her home this morning and moved to an undisclosed location for questioning.
Maddow’s lawyer, who says she hasn’t had legal representation because of the charges filed under the Patriot Act, says the entire scenario reeks of entrapment and promised that everything that happened after she was contacted about the tape will be tossed out of court.
The prosecuting US attorney says the typical rules of law will apply as Maddow will be facing multiple charges of treason. The White House has yet to comment.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
